Postcards From the Future opened at the Museum of London on 1 October 2010.
We exhibited 14 iconic "postcard views" of London, each reimagined to show how man-made climate change could reshape our city. The aim was to bring the global issue of climate change home to London, where we live and work, highlighting its potential impact on our own environment.
By bringing this crisis to our own doorstep, we aimed to raise awareness of the risks posed by man-made climate change and to urge both leaders and the media to take action before it was too late. Back in 2008, there was little, if any, mainstream media interest in man-made climate change, and governments were only just beginning to address the issue.
The exhibition attracted several hundred thousand visitors and the images drew widespread attention globally, with features in The Sunday Times Magazine, The Sun (double-page spread), The Telegraph Online, Huffington Post, CNN Online, National Geographic, and major newspapers across Switzerland, Norway, and Sweden.
“These powerful images prompt us to consider everything that is at stake – the things we value, the things we take for granted – and call us to work towards a very different future.”
- Yvo de Boer, Former Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change
“Beautiful, and a little disturbing.”
- Radiohead
“These works are witty, elegant and provocative. They are timely reminders of the threats to our planet, our lifestyle and survival.”
- Norman Foster, Founder and Chairman of Foster + Partners
